The Mount Airy Lions Club membership is comprised of men and women of all ages and backgrounds who meet once per month on the third Tuesday evening at 7:00 P.M. in the basement of the MACFC on Main Street (next to Wagners Meat Market). "Why should I be a LION?" First - it is fun to be a Lion. There is a lot of fellowship to enjoy and new friends to make..Secondly - we think it takes the type of person who simply wants to help others less fortunate than themselves. You don't need to be wealthy to be a Lion... just a person willing to find a few hours a year to help others. Lionism comes from the heart..it is not a fraternal organization with a clubhouse and bar, requiring secret knocks at the door with special passwords or handshakes or learning a special ritual to be a member. We are simply a service club and "service" means you might have to work. As a member of a Lions Club you get to enjoy that special satisfaction in your heart when a child whose parents can't afford a pair of glasses is able to see the blackboard and their school grades go from D's to A's. Or watching a blind person regaining the freedom of movement that a leader dog provides, or perhaps hearing a single mother with small children saying, "Thank you so very much, I didn't know who to turn to for help, God bless the Lions Club" when you drop off a months supply of food in a kitchen bare of food.
